Arrival of Spring 2009 EuroScholars The current EuroScholars students have all arrived at their host universities in Europe and are settling in. They are excited to start their research project and experience life in Europe! The current students are staying in the Netherlands and Sweden and are doing research in a variety of academic areas including Physics, Chemistry and (Neuro) Psychology. They all come from different universities in the United States including Rutgers University, Amherst College, Willamette University, and Case Western Reserve University. Three EuroScholars students, Sander Zandbergen, (Case Western Reserve University), Idu Azogu (Rutgers University) and Caroline Leeds (graduate of Amherst College) were welcomed to Leiden University mid-January 2009. They were hosted for a welcome lunch by EuroScholars Europe staff Dr. Robert Coelen, Nanda de Bruin, Leontien van Melle and EuroScholars North America staff Mona Miller who was visiting the consortium headquarters at this time. EuroScholars Alumni from Fall 2008 At the same time that the Spring students arrived in Europe, EuroScholar students from the Fall batch left home again with a bag filled with life and academic experiences: Living in Europe: “My experience was absolutely positive. Not only did I grow intellectually but individually as well. I see life... from a new perspective and this comes from my experiences which I had in Italy along with the research I conducted... Italy was the best time of my life and I hope that many in the future will be able to share the same experience!” David Greenberg (Rutgers University/ Università degli Studi di Milano) Research Experience: “I am very happy with my research experience. Having the chance to work in the lab for a semester was very useful for what to expect of research in my future... I could not be happier with the atmosphere of the lab and how well my research went as a result.” Joshua Bryant (Rutgers University/ University of Zurich) NEW: Scholarships for EuroScholars participants Starting in Fall 2009, the EuroScholars program will offer several €500 scholarships to select participants. EuroScholars with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will automatically be considered for these scholarships. No additional application is necessary. |
