| Thank you for your interest in EuroScholars, a unique research study abroad program in Europe. In each edition, this newsletter aims to keep you updated with the latest developments on the program! EuroScholars Mid Stay Program Spring 2009 The spring 2009 EuroScholars, presently doing their research projects in The Netherlands and Sweden, will be meeting each other for their Mid Stay Program in Munich, Germany. The program will take place from April 20-23 and is organized by the International Office of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich. The students will be welcomed by one of LMU’s Vice Presidents and will visit some faculties in their fields of study, e.g. the Faculty of Chemistry/Biochemistry at LMU’s High Tech Campus as well the Center for NanoScience. A staff member of the Center for Applied Policy Research will speak about the History and Politics of the EU and the Foreign Policies of the EU, with a focus on EU-US relations. The center is also involved in the organization of the scientific part of the "European Studies" summer program. In addition, the students will attend a guided city tour, and may visit a museum of their choice. Students will be accommodated near the University’s International Office, which is within walking distance of the city center. Ammocadation and transportation to the Mid Stay program are included in EuroScholars program fees. Look for a short report in the May Newsletter. The UNIGE has built up a vast research network as well, thanks to which its scientists work closely with researchers from United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), European Organisation for Astronomical Research (ESO), European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA. In addition, the UNIGE faculty members cooperate with colleagues from other Swiss universities and colleges in National Centres of Competence, three of which are based at the UNIGE itself. The UNIGE also participates in European research and education programmes, such as EUREKA, IMS, INTAS, HFSP and ESF. Furthermore, numerous partnerships with other institutions around the world and membership in academic networks like the League of European Research Universities (LERU), the International Forum of Public Universities (IFUP), the Coimbra Group and the University Agency of la Francophonie (AUF) give UNIGE researchers ample opportunity to meet their counterparts at partner universities in the course of joint projects. Finally, the Internationalisation Support Fund (FAI) was recently created by the Rector’s Office at the UNIGE to encourage professors and young researchers to expand their network of collaborators.
