People and Population

2.9 million people currently call Wales home. And, while only 2 percent of the population is of an ethnic minority, they are well integrated into the Welsh culture. For years, the Welsh had faced stereotypes of unsophisticated country folk, but these days they are anything but. They are actively embracing international values, making strong initiatives toward sustainable development, welcoming new industry, and introducing their artistic and sporting talents to the world. Much of the country’s youth is migrating towards its urban centers, leaving an aging population in the countryside. The ‘typical’ Welsh lifestyle is certainly in flux. Residents of the countryside enjoy a slower pace of life and are often outnumbered by sheep.
