| GlobaLinks Learning Abroad offers guaranteed pre-arranged accommodation during your study abr oad program. The accommodation you choose while abroad is a key opportunity to truly integrate into the local community. We believe it is important for you to take every opportunity to integrate with locals. Depending on your accommodation selection and placement, you may live alongside local students and/or international students from around the world, providing you with a rich experience that enhances your time abroad. We know that where you live is important to you and because of that, we offer an extensive array of housing choices from which you can choose. Pre-arranged Accommodation GlobaLinks Learning Abroad guarantees pre-arranged accommodation for all programs. Pre-arranged accommodation may be located on campus in a residence hall (“residential college”) or university shared flats (apartments), in an apartment near campus, homestay, or with private room rentals in areas with more limited residential housing on campus. In most cases, you will share living space and kitchen facilities with other students but will have your own bedroom. Meals are not included in most accommodation estimates as students will have access to self-catering facilities. You will shop for your own groceries and prepare your meals in a shared kitchen. Current GlobaLinks students find this is often a wonderful place to interact with other local and international students. Grocery stores can be found within walking or bus distance and will offer most of the foods that you are accustomed to purchasing at home. In some cases, there may be additional costs such as phone line, bedding/ linen service, and Internet installation. Accommodation Arranged Upon Arrival While GlobaLinks Learning Abroad offers guaranteed pre-arranged housing options, students can locate and lease an apartment near the university on their own. However, this is very difficult unless participating in an Academic Year program. Few private rentals will be furnished, include utility costs (very expensive in Europe) or allow for a lease of less than 9 to 10 months. Experience has shown that students who arrive early to find a private lodging arrangement end up back at the university on a waiting list for university accommodations with the additional cost of temporary hotel charges in the interim. In most cases, choosing to arrange your own accommodation requires that you arrive a full 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the term to allow yourself sufficient time to find a rental. Temporary accommodation may be arranged for you, usually payable upon arrival, while you find a suitable location. You should consider expenses for food, gas, electricity, phone, Internet, and/or TV rental as well as other costs associated with apartment living. Each community will offer different apartment options ranging from standard condominium style apartments to shared houses. Specific housing information can be found within each university program profile page. View a list of universities available or search for a program based on academic areas available and/or location.
