The University is located in the northwest of England, close to the beautiful Lake District, one of England’s national parks. It has good rail links to London (2.5 hours), Edinburgh (2 hours), or Manchester (1 hour), as well as three airports within one and a half hours, which give easy access to mainland Europe. You are never far away from both spectacular countryside and city life.
The city of Lancaster is 15 minutes from campus by bus and its picturesque narrow streets, its canal and riverside, its parks, manageable size, and friendly atmosphere all make the city popular with students. The town has plenty to offer in the way of entertainment including an independent cinema and repertory theatre, pubs and restaurants, Students’ Union nightclub, museums and an annual literature festival.

English Literature, History, Politics and International Relations, European Studies, Psychology and Creative Writing are all popular options for study abroad students.
Undergraduate research projects are also an option instead of a classroom based course, especially for those attending in the Spring or for the full year. You are supervised on an individual basis by a specialist faculty member and this can be good preparation for a senior year dissertation.
