Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC), Milan, Italy’s premier private university, has introduced a program of university courses taught in English available to GlobaLinks Learning Abroad students. For the first time in Italy, international study abroad students may enroll in a comprehensive Italian university and receive their education in English. The semester courses delivered in English are designed for students who want to increase their understanding of the political, business, cultural and artistic environment and heritage of Italy.

The program comprises of courses that define Italy’s role within the European Union as well as her relationship with non-European countries. Students who are fluent in Italian can enroll in Italian-taught courses across a variety of disciplines.

Once a semester, the UCSC International Relations Office organizes a weekend excursion. Locations will vary per semester and will highlight the treasures of Northern Italian culture such as Padova, Parma, Arezzo or Sienna. Students will discover the sights, sounds and tastes (architecture, wine tasting, culinary specialties, and much more) of particular Northern Italian regions.

The Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (UCSC), founded in 1921 by Father Agostino Gemelli, is one of the most comprehensive and complete higher education institutions in Italy. UCSC excels in the diverse study opportunities that it offers in the humanities as well as scientific fields. Extracurricular Activities

As a GlobaLinks Learning Abroad participant, you will be directly enrolled as a student in the university abroad. This allows you to take advantage of every opportunity to be culturally integrated in the campus environment and culture by participating in university activities with resident students. Living in Milan provides a myriad of exciting activities in which to participate. With such a rich cultural and religious history there are no shortages of fascinating sites to visit in Milan, such as the Duomo, the Castello Sforzesco, the Navigli, the Cimitero Monumentale, and many more. For sports fans, Stadio San Siro (Stadio Giuseppe Meazza), home to both AC Milan and Internazionale Milan, provides an intense and famous venue to attend soccer matches. Restaurants, bars, and night clubs also can easily be found throughout the city ensuring enjoyable night-life activities any day of the week. During the months of Spring and Autumn fashion shows are prominent in the city and La Scala Opera House hosts yearlong ballets, operas, and plays for those seeking a more elegant way to spend the nights.

Furthermore, Milan’s positioning in northern Italy allows for day/weekend trips to cities such as Genova, Venice, Torino, and Verona, ski trips to the Alps, visits to beautiful Lake Como, or hiking in Cinque Terre. Access to both the Adriatic Sea to the east and the Ligurian Sea to the west provide equally magnificent opportunities to see the Italian coastline.

At UCSC there are two prominent students organizations, the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and Exchange Student Erasmus Guide (ESEG), working to assist all international students studying at UCSC. These associations often organize trips to the many sites within Milan as well as the surrounding areas, giving students the opportunity to experience these in the comfort of well-organized and informative excursions. Additionally, ESN and ESEG can assist student athletes interested in joining club teams at UCSC.

Community Involvement

Getting involved abroad can enable you to meet local students, make a meaningful connection with your campus and community, and enhance your study abroad experience. Your coordinator will connect you with local resources if you wish to volunteer for community projects through your host university. It is important for you to find the right combination of academic, cultural, and leisure activities in order to take full advantage of international learning and cultural immersion.

All students are encouraged to participate in volunteer activities at or near their campus, where permitted under host-country immigration regulations. Service learning is an integral piece of a well-rounded education, and we support students’ efforts to integrate into the local culture through volunteer activities. Students are provided with information on volunteer opportunities on campus or within the community during the orientation and preparation process.
