The University of Strathclyde was voted Number 1 by students in the U.K. in a recent Times survey. Founded in 1796, the University of Strathclyde is based at the John Anderson campus and it is in the heart of the vibrant and friendly Scottish city of Glasgow. The tradition of ‘useful learning’ is at the heart of Strathclyde’s ethos and has contributed to the University’s clutch of excellent ratings for research, the quality of its teaching, its strong links with industry and business and its top-ten place in the league of universities earning royalty income from inventions.

Location
Strathclyde has its own Campus Village, right in the heart of Glasgow. The city of Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland with approximately 650,000 people. Named the “coolest city in the UK” by the ‘National Geographic Traveler’ and the “UK’s favorite tourist city destination” by ‘Condé Nast Traveler’, Glasgow is a great place to live and study, with a huge variety of things to see and do and a tremendous reputation for friendliness.
Glasgow is undoubtedly the UK’s best-preserved Victorian city. In 1999, it was voted the European City of Architecture and Design. Also boasting over 70 public parks, Glasgow, 'the Dear Green Place', is a pleasure to stroll around. The City is home to over 20 museums and art galleries which are free of charge, many of which are within easy walking distance of the campus and more than 200 other cultural organizations, including the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the world renowned Citizens Theatre. Glasgow has the liveliest club, pub and live music scene in the UK outside of London.
Sport is an important part of the culture in Glasgow. Glasgow regularly hosts international sporting events and is gearing up to host the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The surrounding countryside offers excellent opportunities for the pursuit of outdoor sports such as sailing, cycling, golf, mountaineering and winter sports.
Glasgow’s shopping facilities are renowned as the best in the UK outside of London. Cosmopolitan cafés and restaurants complement the huge number of fashion retailers, designer outlets and speciality shops.
Glasgow International Airport has direct flight connections to many cities in the USA and Canada. A team of university representatives will greet you at the airport. The airport is only seven miles west of the University, less than twenty minutes by airport bus or taxi.
As a gateway to the Scottish Highlands, Glasgow offers Loch Lomond and Rob Roy country within an hour’s drive. And don’t forget that other countries in Europe are a short flight from Glasgow’s international airport at cheap student rates.

The Strathclyde Business School is one of an elite group of schools to achieve triple accreditation from AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business), EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System), and AMBA (Association of MBAs), placing it in the top 1% of business schools worldwide. The Strathclyde Business School is also number one for research: top in Scotland and in the top 10 UK-wide.
The Faculty of Engineering is one of the UK's leading centres of engineering education and research consisently achieving the highest ratings in official assessments of teaching quality and research. Strong links with local industry and multi-national companies mean that our students work on real engineering problems and case studies, with the potential for company placements, scholarships and research opportunities.

There is a variety of campus accommodation available on the Strathclyde campus in downtown Glasgow. All new single international students are guaranteed University accommodation on campus, provided their application is received on time. Residences are located at the center of campus and thus the city of Glasgow and consist of single rooms in self-catering apartments. All rooms in University accommodation have broadband access, social areas and laundry facilities. Orientation and Excursions
The University of Strathclyde recognises the importance of providing a dedicated advisory service for its international students. Our team of International Student Advisers offer a comprehensive orientation programme as well as support and advice throughout your studies, including running the Welcome Programme, social program throughout the year (Wednesday pub night and weekends away) and dealing with questions about immigration issues, registration with the police, medical services, employment, finance and many others. The extensive range of support services provided by the University to international students includes: Student Health Centre, Chaplaincy Centre, Careers Advisory Service, Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement, The University Library which comprises the Andersonian Library, the Jordanhill Library and three satellite libraries, The Computer Centre, which provides computer and networking facilities.
Healthcare, from the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), is free to all international students in Scotland, no matter how long the period of study.
The excellent sports facilities on campus include swimming pools and a sports centre with gymnasia and squash courts which was renovated in summer 2006 to an exceptionally high standard. A new Sports and Health Centre is planned for 2011. There are over 200 different sports clubs and societies at the University of Strathclyde to suit all tastes and interests.

Fee IncludesAll fees are quoted in US Dollars unless otherwise specifically stated. Program Fees include tuition for full-time semester status, university and program administrative fees, membership in the student union (where applicable), health insurance, and the Bridging Cultures Program. Fees include all pre-departure services such as: orientation materials, visa-processing support (excluding the visa fee), housing placements, personal advising, subject selections, liaise with your home university, credit transfer assistance, and financial aid services. As a study abroad student, you will be required to enroll as a full time student. Your semester is equivalent to 12-16 U.S. credits. Additional tuition and/or fees may apply in some subject areas not limited to the following: science, engineering, fine arts, and journalism. Students who undertake subjects where the university requires additional fees will be billed by the host university. Housing Fees are not included in the Program Fee and will be billed separately depending on the specific accommodations placement. A housing deposit is not included in this fee. Where required to reserve accommodations in advance the student will make direct payment for the refundable housing deposit. Students who select “personal apartment living arranged upon arrival by the student” will only be charged the Program Fees, and housing costs will be paid on arrival by the student. BIO:
Rachael is the outreach and student services coordinator for EuroLearn programs. She assists students with basic inquiries as well as enrollment services.
Rachael graduated with a BA in International Relations and Russian from Bucknell University. In addition to travelling to Australia, New Zealand, China, and Eastern Europe, she spent 18 months living and working in Moscow, Russia. Rachael is excited to help students have the opportunity to experience life abroad. |
